Delicious Homemade Apple Crisp

The Best-Ever Apple Crisp Recipe…Seriously!

There aren’t many desserts that yell “IT’S FALL Y’ALL!” quite like a warm scoop of apple crisp. Years ago, my dad came to visit for a few days, and I made my first apple crisp. Now, it’s a tradition every time he comes to see us…and neither of us are upset about it. So, I really do feel like I can say this is the BEST ever apple crisp recipe, because I’ve tried quite a few.

In fact, both my dad and husband liked this apple crisp recipe so much that I made it twice in the week of my dad’s last visit. (And then a third time for a get-together with friends a few days after that šŸ˜‚)

So yeah, it’s good.

Confession: I’m really not a good Pinterest-user. I love to scroll and save ideas. And lately, I’m really in to creating graphics for my blog posts šŸ˜. But, if I’m looking for a recipe, I find what I want, make it, and forget to “pin” it to use again! Ugh.

That almost happened again with this apple crisp recipe! Thankfully, I remembered how the pin looked and was able to quickly find it again…phew!

Confession #2: Even if I find a recipe…I’m really not great at following it. I’m not sure if my attention span is that of a 1st grader or if it’s more of a “yeah, yeah, I got it” attitude. Probably both šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø.

All that to say, the recipe below is definitely a “Kelcey adaptation” of the one I pinned šŸ˜‰.

A Dessert Even Your Kids Can Make!

Honestly, I don’t usually love baking with my kids. I’m a little bit of a neat freak, and normally just want to get the job done instead of all the “fun” that little hands add to a kitchen. That makes me sound horrible, but hopefully you get what I mean!

Anyways, a sweet member of the church gave us this apple spiralizer gadget and it was a real hit with my 4 year old! She loves to be a helper – this dramatically cut down my peeling/cutting time and gave her a fun job to do.

We had one of these at our house growing up, and it was the coolest thing! For some reason, apples just seem to taste better when they’re shaped like a slinky šŸ˜‚.

Enough talk, let’s get to it!

Best Ever Apple Crisp

This is seriously the best apple crisp recipe I have ever tried! It's easy, uses simple ingredients, and makes your house smell AHHHH-MAZING.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4-6 peeled and chopped apples I've been using Gala apples, but you can definitely use your own favorite.
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon, divided
  • splash of lemon juice (told you I'm not good at recipes šŸ˜‰)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup uncooked oatmeal
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 stick butter (cut in)
  • pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350ā„‰

  2. Grease an 8×8 dish.

  3. Peel and chop apples. I chopped into bits/cubes, but slices would also work well.

  4. In a bowl, combine apples, 1 tsp cinnamon, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir gently to cover apples completely and transfer to baking dish.

  5. In a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients to make the "crust." Make sure to cut the butter in. I use my hands to combine until it resembles wet sand, with some larger pieces, but you could also use a mixer.

  6. Spread mixture over the apples, covering completely.

  7. Bake for approximately 45 min, or until golden and bubbly.

According to my husband, my MO is to take nibbles off of every crunchy corner of whatever I’m baking. He may be right šŸ˜‚. But you guys – those little chunks of crust straight out of the oven…unbelievable! I simply cannot resist. But who can, really?

Evidently there are special brownie pans for people just like me! Look at all the crunchy corner goodness to be found šŸ˜!

The thing that puts any apple crisp recipe over-the-top in my opinion is a large scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Yes, vanilla bean. It’s a little bit of an inside joke, but seriously, makes this delicious dessert even better!

I bet you have all of these ingredients in your kitchen right now…so get to it! I’d love to hear how much you loved this perfect fall dessert!
