Clip In, Sweat It All Out: Spin Class Workout Set #2

Spin class is one of the highlights of my week! I love to get in a good workout and let myself escape with the playlist.

Ready for a new set of workouts?! Me too! As much as I look forward to the actual workout, I also love putting these routines together and playing DJ.

If you missed indoor cycling workouts #1-4, you can find them here.

Spin Class Essentials

I have a bag for class that I always have packed and ready to go! Here’s my list of cycling essentials:

  • Cycling Shoes. Total honesty, these can get really expensive…but you don’t need top-of-the-line shoes to get a great workout. Cycling shoes have a firm platform built in (they don’t flex like regular shoes) which makes a HUGE difference, especially when standing or riding with heavy resistance. You’ll also need to make sure that your shoes have clips. This is the part that will snap in to the underside of the pedal.

You can strap in using your regular sneakers, but I’ve had several people comment on how much better their workout is with shoes designed for indoor cycling.
  • Sweat towel. You’re going to sweat. You need one of these…or two šŸ˜‰.
  • Water bottle. My favorite kind of bottle to have in spin class is the metal insulated kind. I need cold water…no time for room-temp hydration, haha.

Week 1

Some weeks, I think I make my playlists while I’m a little hyper. This week was one of those! If you’re looking to really get a good sweat going, this is the spin class routine for you!

**SAFETY REMINDER** When standing for a climb or jumps, make sure you have enough resistance. You want enough to support your weight…to not fall through the pedal when you stand up. It should be enough resistance to cause your body to move side to side when you pedal, and not up and down (like a pogo stick).

Week 2

Like I said, I love getting to play DJ in class! How could I not do a Halloween-themed class?! šŸ‘»šŸŽƒ boooo! Even if it’s already passed for 2020, you can still get into the spooky spirit or save the playlist for next year.

This spin class workout will have your legs screaming for mercy.

Week 3

This was a weird week. What with the 2020 Presidential election and daylight savings time…things just kinda felt “off.” I wanted this week’s spin class workout to be light-hearted and an extra escape for my members.

After the workout, we all felt a little bit lighter emotionally and ready to get back to the “real world.”

I’m thinking next week I’ll do a 70s or 80s-inspired class…you just can’t be stressed when listening to those kinds of songs!

Week 4

Our snowbirds are back in town! In central Florida, our population increases dramatically with the colder months. As I teach and coordinate my spin class workout, I try to make sure that the music suits the tastes as of many participants as possible. It’s just not as fun if you’re not enjoying what you’re listening to. A great playlist can motivate, encourage, and push you farther than you ever thought possible in indoor cycling!

All that to say, I used to do something called “Throwback Thursday” where I would either choose older (ahem, more classic) music or let people take turns giving me a theme. Well with the snowbirds back in town, “60s music” was a pretty popular request. The first time I made a spin class workout to 60s music, it was a little challenging, but I think this one will be a lot of fun for my entire class.

  1. I’m new to Pinterest but not new to spinning. I was looking for playlists and inspiration to get back on my bike and I found you PLUS I’m delighted to see Dynamite by BTS on a set! Great song/Great group/Great playlist. Now is my seat cover!!!

    1. Thanks Bella!! I’m always looking for new inspiration – what are some of your favorite songs to workout to? I’m glad you like the playlist and welcome back to spinning! šŸ™‚
